12 Nepalese women rescued from dance club in Kenya
Kenyan authorities yesterday rescued 12 Nepali women from a club in Nyali, a residential area within Mombasa City of Kenya.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya, the 12 rescued Nepali women were victims of human trafficking.
“@DCI_Kenya Detectives from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit raided a club in Nyali and rescued twelve victims of Human Trafficking-all #Nepalese ladies. The owner of the club one Mr Asif Amirali Alibhai Jetha, a #Canadian arrested. All victims found well & safe,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations-Kenya said in a Twitter post.
The Embassy of Nepal in South Africa, which also oversees Kenya, said detailed report of the incident was yet to come, but Nepal’s Honorary Consul to Kenya Jimmy Askar was looking after it.
Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy Ghanashyam Lamsal told that Askar had already met the rescued girls who were in police custody. He said the girls were rescued from the club and not for their involvement in prostitution as reported by some media.
